Close clustering of anthers and stigma in Ipomoea hederacea enhances prezygotic isolation from Ipomoea purpurea.
Theory predicts that, for taxa that are already substantially postzygotically isolated but for which hybrid mating is still costly, enhanced prezygotic isolation will be favored. Here, we tested this hypothesis by examining the potential contribution of one particular floral trait, herkogamy, to prezygotic isolation between two species of morning glory, Ipomoea hederacea and Ipomoea purpurea. T...
متن کاملRare prenylated flavonoids from Tephrosia purpurea.
Chemical investigations of aerial parts of Tephrosia purpurea yielded the rare prenylated flavonoids, tephropurpulin A (1) and isoglabratephrin (2), in addition to a previously identified flavonoid, glabratephrin (3). Structures were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, as well as by HR-MS analysis; for compounds 2 and 3, structures were confirmed by X-ray analysis.
متن کاملIsolation of Β-sitosterol from Ethanol Extract of Aerial Parts of Bauhinia Purpurea and Evaluation for Antihyperlipidemic Activity
Bauhinia purpurea is a flowering plant. General phytochemical screening of the aerial parts of Bauhinia purpurea revealed the presence of steroids, terpenes, phenolic compounds, saponins, fatty acids, alkaloids. The aim of this study is to identify and characterize the bioactive principle from the aerial parts of the plant. It has wide folk medicinal use. For isolation of the compound, the drie...
متن کاملA -D-fructofuranosidase from Claviceps purpurea.
Evidence suggests that sucrose is the main carbon source for growth of Claviceps spp. in the parasitic condition. The sucrose acts as substrate for an active beta-fructofuranosidase, produced by the fungus, which in the first instance converts the disaccharide into glucose and an oligofructoside. In this way, 50% of the glucose, supplied as sucrose, is made available to the parasite for assimil...
متن کاملDepigmenting effect of catechins.
The aim of the present work was to clarify the anti-melanogenic mechanism of the catechin group. In this study, we used (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC), (-)-catechin (C), and gallic acid (GA). The catechin group inhibited melanin synthesis in B16 melanoma cells. To elucidate the anti-melanogenic mechanism of the catechin group, we performed Western blotting ana...
